Dear artists, cultural workers, freelancers and small entrepreneurs,
End of March 2020 the German government has supported many of us with an immediate financial emergency aid plan to temporarily secure our existence in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Berlin alone, more than 150,000 applications were filed and already around 1.3 billion Euro provided by the Berlin Senat has been transferred through IBB. Though not everyone was able to profit from this, many of us have gratefully received this much needed fiscal sustenance.
But there is a collective urge across all professions to redistribute a part of the funding received in order to support movements and initiatives in their efforts to leave no one behind!
For years, people have been effectively denied the opportunity to enter mainland Europe and to apply for asylum. This is without question a breach of international, human and European law.
On the Greek islands of Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Leros and Kos, 42,000 people are being „housed“ in an unworthy manner and therefore exposed to the corona virus without any protection. There is no home for them to stay, no emergency aid program, no waiting number, no funding and no basic hygiene. It is now vitally imperative to fight for the people stuck in refugee camps on the borders of Europe.
Therefore we, Artists Care About Bridges, call for a solidaric emergency aid program by appealing to artists, cultural workers, freelancers and small entrepreneurs to unite and donate privately to SEEBRÜCKE Organization (https://seebruecke.org/) under the campaign #UnitedWeShare

Small actions and amounts from many people can add up to big impact and change:

Now is the time for action!
We can increase the political pressure on our governments!
Seebrücke is in intensive contact with Government officials, both at federal and state level. With the momentum of new protest forms, such as online demos, we have a solid presence in the media. Let us support Seebrücke together! With this collective effort we want to succeed in opening the borders for people who are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

We will not tolerate the current situation being used to justify and legitimize an unprecedented violation of human rights.
We, artists and freelancers, being on the receiving end of such a funding, are aware of our privileges. We will actively use them by redistributing and by making a collective and strong statement for solidarity during these difficult times.
Now, we do not only have the opportunity, but also the responsibility to stand up!

ARTIST CARE ABOUT BRIDGES
Liebe Künstler*innen, Kulturschaffende, Freiberufler*innen und Kleinselbstständige,
Ende März 2020 hat die deutsche Regierung viele von uns mit einem Soforthilfeprogramm unterstützt, um unsere Existenz in Zeiten der COVID-19-Pandemie zumindest temporär zu sichern. Allein in Berlin sind inzwischen mehr als 150.000 Anträge gestellt worden und rund 1,3 Milliarden Euro der vom Berliner Senat bewilligten Soforthilfe II durch die IBB überwiesen worden. Auch wenn nicht alle von dieser Hilfe profitieren konnten, haben viele von uns diese dringend benötigte Unterstützung dankbar erhalten.
Quer durch alle betroffenen Berufszweige wurde jedoch sehr schnell das Bedürfnis laut, einen Teil dieser erhaltenen Gelder umzuverteilen, um damit zivilgesellschaftliche Initiativen in ihrer Arbeit zu unterstützen.
In den vergangenen Jahren wurden Menschen gezielt daran gehindert, Zugang zu Europa zu bekommen und Anträge auf Asyl zu stellen. Dies ist ein Bruch mit internationalem, humanitärem sowie europäischem Recht.
Auf den griechischen Inseln Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Leros und Kos sind zurzeit 42.000 Menschen in unwürdiger Weise in Lagern „untergebracht“ und nicht nur dem Coronavirus völlig schutzlos ausgeliefert. Sie haben kein Zuhause, in dem sie bleiben können, kein Soforthilfeprogramm, keinen Wartelistenplatz, keine Rücklagen, keinen Zugang zu hygienischen Einrichtungen. Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt ist es mehr als dringend geboten, für die Menschen zu kämpfen, die in diesen Lagern an den europäischen Außengrenzen festsitzen.
Wir, Artists Care About Bridges, fordern deshalb die Umsetzung eines solidarischen Soforthilfeprogramms, indem wir Künstler*innen, Kulturschaffende, Freiberufler*innen und Kleinselbstständige dazu aufrufen, sich zusammenzuschließen und privat an die Organisation SEEBRÜCKE (https://seebruecke.org/) im Rahmen der Kampagne #UnitedWeShare zu spenden.

Lasst uns gemeinsam die Seebrücke unterstützen! Auf diese Weise wollen wir erreichen, dass Grenzen für Menschen, die akut humanitäre Hilfe benötigen, endlich geöffnet werden.

Wir, Künstler*innen und Kreative, die wir finanzielle Unterstützung erhalten, sind uns unserer Privilegien bewusst. Wir wollen sie aktiv nutzen und zur Umverteilung einsetzen, um ein kollektives und entschiedenes Statement für Solidarität in diesen schwierigen Zeiten zu setzen.
Jetzt haben wir nicht nur die Möglichkeit, sondern auch die Verantwortung, uns zu erheben!
